Have Fun, See the Sights

There's a lot to do in Las Vegas, here are a few of the possibilities:

The Strip

The famous Las Vegas Strip - busy night and day, is only a short 15 minutes away. The hotel offers a free shuttle (first come, first serve) that takes you to the Fashion Square (north end) of the strip. Make sure you take in famous sites like the Bellagio Fountain, the fighting pirates at TI, and the "volcano" that erupts each hour at The Mirage. Taxis are numerous in Las Vegas and you can expect to spend about $10 - $25 if you take a taxi. (Amount varies based on traffic (rush hour) and where you are going on the strip).

Fremont Street (Old Las Vegas)
The world-famous, one-of-a-kind entertainment venue is home to Viva Vision, the biggest big screen on the planet. More than 12 million lights in the Viva Vision canopy and 550,000 watts of concert quality sound pumped to speakers throughout the venue produce an incredible array of eye-popping imagery and heart pounding music. The giant LED screen towers 90-feet above a pedestrian mall lined with unique retail shopping kiosks and two permanent performance stages. Ten legendary casinos line Fremont Street Experience (with cheap tables!) and more than 60 restaurants and thousands of loose slots. Free concerts, special events, and roaming street performers entertain the nearly 17 million visitors who come to experience the vintage Vegas attraction each year.

Las Vegas Shows:
Las Vegas has a live show to please everybody! Whether you want to see a magic show, comedy, the old style "Vegas Girl" or a male review - Vegas can cater to your wishes. Cirque shows abound as well as concerts by real artists and their fake-twins (Elvis anyone?). If you MUST see a specific show - be sure and book ahead of time. If you aren't too picky - buy that day (before noon!) and save a bundle (try on-line). Many casinos have free shows to lure you into their gambling places.

Gambling
Casinos and Las Vegas are almost synonymous! You can play Black Jack (21), Poker or numerous other games at "tables". Craps and Roulette are fast and fun. Slot machines should bring out the computer geeks as most are more like video games than the old fashioned "one armed bandits". Don't know how to gamble? Most casinos offer free lessons in the daytime. Or try the penny or nickel slots. For the cheapest tables and machines - go off-the-strip (like at the J.W. Marriott's casino or Fremont Street). Gambling on the strip is fun - but the most expensive! It may be better to shop or visit the sights on the Strip. Note: casinos in the USA will offer your free drinks if you play at a table or if you sit at the same slot machine long enough.

Grand Canyon
Distance: 280 miles by car
A powerful and inspiring landscape, the Grand Canyon overwhelms our senses through its immense size. Unique combinations of geologic color and erosional forms decorate a canyon that is 277 river miles (446km) long, up to 18 miles (29km) wide, and a mile (1.6km) deep. This is a must see natural wonder. You can fly by plane or helicopter from Las Vegas, take a bus tour or drive yourself.

Red Rock Canyon (Federal Park)
Distance: 5 miles from J.W. Marriott
The park offers a beautiful drive, hiking, biking and photo opportunities. The Scenic Drive offers numerous stops for sightseeing and photography.  Hiking trails are accessible from the designated pullouts and parking areas.  The scenic drive is open daily from  6 a.m. until dusk. The park has petroglyphs (rock drawings) and desert beauty hard to imagine.

Golf
There are 11 (count them, eleven!) golf courses surrounding the J.W. Marriott Resort. Guests of the resort can request special T-times set up for hotel attendees. Check out the hotel's web site for all the details.

Aquae Sulis Spa
The J.W. Marriott offers a world-class spa on-site. With over 10,000 square feet - you can choose from relaxing hydro therapies, to water-ritual rooms, to hard-core workouts in the Fitness Center. Facials, manicures, pedicures and massages - relax and enjoy the best!
