Servoy Labs Inside Scoop
Here is this month's update from the Servoy Labs -- giving you a glimpse of just two of the dozens of "top secret" features being worked on, that will most likely be included in future releases of Servoy!
  • Global keyboard shortcuts:
Imagine being able to register shortcuts on a global level that can trigger Servoy methods in both Servoy Smart Client and Servoy Web Client.

  • Form level element onFocus events:
For Servoy developers who write generic code: How about assigning a generic Servoy method to process onFocus gained and/or onFocus lost events at the form level; as well as passing on the object that triggers the method -- enabling you to hook up your custom code?

Special Webinar: GoldMine and Panda Security - March 12
Mark this event on your calendars. Do not miss this opportunity! The Servoy Special webinar, titled: "GoldMine and Panda Security: their growth strategy, focus on costs and choosing the right technology", will be hosted by Brenda Christensen, co-founder of GoldMine, a successful CRM ISV; and Patrick Hinojosa, former CTO of Panda Security, a successful security ISV. Brenda and Patrick will reveal how they withstood the constant battle with their competitors and Microsoft -- gaining marketshare while keeping costs low; as well as choosing the right technology vendor on which to base that growth.

The Servoy Special Webinar is FREE, but seats are limited. To pre-register today, CLICK HERE.

Reminder: Servoy VUG (Virtual Users Group) - March 18
Don't forget to join us at the next Servoy Virtual Users Group (VUG) -- being held on Wednesday, March 18, at 10 am PST. Bob Cusick, Founder and CEO of Clickware, Inc., Servoy SAN Partner, will sponsor and host the event. Sign up today and we'll send you an email to remind you to attend the event. For updates on the Servoy VUG agenda, please visit the Servoy Forum User Groups Section.

The Servoy VUG agenda will include:
  • Jason Pierson - Agilus
"Using the right tools for Agile software development: Rally Software"
Traditional waterfall methodologies and tools do not lend themselves well to Agile teams. Jason Pierson from Agilus will present Rally Software's online project management application and share how his team uses Agile principles on a daily basis to deliver better, faster, cheaper.

  • Greg Pierce - Agile Tortoise
New module that implements the date.js advanced date stuff! Greg will demonstrate how the Date.js library -- http://www.datejs.com -- can be integrated and deployed in a Servoy solution to provide lots of convenient coding methods for Dates and also allow your users to do natural language date entry in date controls using global method converters.

  • Scott Butler - Servoy
Scott is going to show an advanced technique utilizing the Servoy Solution Model, demonstrating how to create a dynamic form in list view, where each record in a list can have its own custom form design -- at the same time! Suppose you need to display a product list, where the design of each record depends on the product type. For example, the form design and data displayed for a vehicle product can be much different than the form design and data for a shoe product.
Attendance at the Servoy VUG is FREE, but seats are limited. To pre-register today, CLICK HERE.

Java Developer Journal: Servoy CEO Article on Scripting Tools and Languages
Jan Aleman, Servoy CEO, is a featured author of the article "Fast, Flexible, Sexy Scripting Tools and Languages - Keeping up with future changes in business models and technologies." Here is a snippet from the article:

"I am a big proponent of using scripting languages. Personally, I use JavaScript very often: Why? Because it's fast, flexible and sexy. There are a few aspects to a language being 'fast' -- there is fast to learn, fast to code, fast to fix, and fast to run. Because JavaScript is a relatively simple language, it's very easy to learn. In fact, most developers have already used it in one of the many environments that are already JavaScript-based -- obviously the web-browser -- but also products from large vendors such as Adobe and Microsoft that are highly JavaScriptable."
