Servoy Redefines Smart Client to Web Client for Web 2.0 - Instantly Use AJAX, Saas, RIA with Existing Code

Boston, MA - At today's ServoyWorld Conference, CEO Jan Aleman announced the new release of its flagship product, Servoy 3.0. Servoy 3.0 automatically converts applications for web publication, complete with AJAX for a Rich Internet Application (RIA) or Software as a Service (Saas) -- and almost no additional coding of your internal Servoy applications.

Servoy 3.0 offers a revolutionary technology with its Web Client functionality -- allowing companies to reuse their original Servoy code to automatically deploy to the internet with almost zero additional coding. Internal applications can be immediately utilized for web applications to create a Rich Internet Application (RIA) without having to rewrite in a CGI -- such as Ruby on Rails or PHP. Servoy writes the HTML code automatically with Servoy's newest release.

Jan Blok, CTO of Servoy: "One big problem of web-based applications is printing. Pages break where they shouldn't and the formatting is always out of control due to poor printing capabilities of web-browsers. We completely took this hurdle away by automatically generating a PDF and streaming it back to the web-browser of the user to allow perfect printing without any of the problems in web-browser based environments."

Building web applications becomes much more fun now that complex coding is no longer necessary. It literally takes less than 10 minutes to build a form that stores data in a backend SQL database -- including validation and search capabilities. The Servoy 3.0 Web Client also includes AJAX technology to provide a richer and more interactive experience to the web user. One example of this rich interactive experience, type-ahead fields bound to SQL tables that can be added to web forms, was demonstrated at the Conference.

The three major benefits of Servoy 3.0 are: automatic creation of a web application; less maintenance of the application; and increased security. Other key new features in Servoy 3.0 include: an error handler object that allows centralized processing of exceptions; the ability to store find requests; an enhanced debugging environment; PDF enhancements; and many more. Over 200 documented features have been added and improved in this new release.

Choices Software, a leading ISV (Independent Software Vendor) in the insurance industry with thousands of customers, is one of the first adopters of Servoy Web Client technology -- helping to beta test the product and re-create their flagship application using Servoy 3.0 prior to its release. Dean Westover, president of Choices Software, commented: "Servoy 3 is the right product at the right time. People are now routinely purchasing software over the internet. They want to access the software they purchase immediately and be able to use it without having to go through a complicated installation process. Reviewing the statistics from our web site, we found that we have about eight seconds to favorably impress a new visitor. If they do not like what they see, they will move on to another web site. That is today's reality.

With Servoy 3.0, we have been able to develop rich internet applications that remove the 'friction' between the end-user and our software. People can now visit our web site and start using our software solutions immediately. There is no longer a need to download an installer and go through a complicated installation process. Everything happens in real time. In less than one minute they are up and running."

Bob Cusick, Managing Director of Servoy USA, described the benefits of Servoy 3.0 to developers in the hotel's hallway during the Conference: "No other tool lets you create and maintain a rich internet application and web interface so easily and quickly. You write your business application with Servoy -- a powerful drag and drop GUI; connect it to your database; and then BAM! Redeploy THE SAME CODE to the internet! No need to rewrite in something else. Servoy does that for you."

Cusick went on to further explain how Servoy 3.0 increases security: "Organizations need to lock down their computers for security reasons. They don't allow you to access websites that then need to access Flash and multiple plugins. With Servoy's Web Client technology, your application is written in pure HTML and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) automatically! This eliminates the browser's need to access plugins; and doesn't open your system to viruses, worms and all that mess."

Another important function of Servoy's Web Client technology highlighted by Westover: "In many instances, users do not have the rights to install software on the computers they must use. More and more people are using computers that are 'locked down', such as at: airports, libraries, hotels, internet cafes, etc. The Servoy 3.0 Web Client makes it easy to develop software solutions for this environment, because these solutions run entirely within a browser."

One beta tester commented on the amazing ability to re-use Servoy code for the Web: "What I like best about Servoy 3.0, is that it allows us to easily customize our solutions without having to go through the tedious process of creating or modifying HTML or JSP web pages. All the hard work is done for us, automatically. No need to use PHP or Ruby on Rails or another CGI. Servoy does it almost all automatically. The easy-to-use WYSIWYG development environment is a godsend."
